The Commuter's plot involves a small-town father who discovers that his son has been kidnapped by two US Homeland Security agents and that his wife may be complicit in the kidnapping. The story line revolves around a father whose 13-year-old boy is abducted by the US government and an ex-cop who's forced to confront his estranged son's captors. Liam Neeson stars as ex-cop-turned-father-figure Ryan Quinn, a veteran cop who reluctantly agrees to help search for his son, who's been kidnapped by the government on a black ops mission in the Middle East.
The airline pilot Mark Bishop, a decorated World War II veteran, is involved in a tragic mid-flight plane crash. Twenty years later, Bishop visits his granddaughter, Lori, who is a journalist living in Boston, Massachusetts. He meets her boyfriend, Geoff, and they both have news of Lori's half-brother, Richard. Richard has become a contract killer who specializes in hunting down mobsters and cops. Bishop says he's aware of Richard's work, but doesn't think he's a threat to Geoff.
As Lori writes a story on the real cause of the crash, she becomes embroiled in a dangerous conflict with Richard, whose latest hit on the Boston underworld has landed him in her.
